Clearway Energy was looking to replace its existing benefits system with one that offered a more user-friendly employee experience and greater flexibility to handle the nuances of the company’s comprehensive benefits package and diverse workforce populations. They partnered with PlanSource in July 2020 with the goal of launching just a few months later in November in time for open enrollment. Not only was the launch and open enrollment successful, but HR recognized improved reporting and additional time-savings.

Implementation began in July of 2020. Due to COVID, Clearway Energy couldn’t meet with employees in person for enrollment and needed to have the PlanSource system up and running by November. As a premium partner, implementation also included the Employee Contact Center, COBRA Administration, Dependent Verification and Billing Reconciliation and Payment.
Although Clearway Energy felt the biggest challenge was prioritization, they reported that their PlanSource project manager kept everyone on task by asking for specific items such as plan documents and summaries. They also appreciated the PlanSource implementation timeline that kept everything structured and organized. Additionally, Clearway Energy used training videos and the user manual to train their HR department on the platform in preparation for open enrollment.
Clearway Energy wanted to improve their employee benefits experience and make them feel more confident in their benefits decisions. With PlanSource, they have access to educational videos to learn about their options, an employee contact center to help address questions, and year-round self-service access that allows employees to view their benefits and learn how to best use them.
Clearway Energy’s HR team enjoyed a more hands-off open enrollment as employees had the flexibility to access their account and enroll on their own rather than calling or coming in to speak with a counselor. Between the library of educational videos, call center and chat feature, employees reported that they felt supported throughout their enrollment experience.
From the HR team perspective, PlanSource made it easy to identify who hadn’t enrolled yet so they could avoid employees missing important deadlines. They were also able to set up automatic reports sent via email to assist with their unique PTO Purchase Plan as well as weekly benefits deduction reporting for payroll.
