Partner of the Week: LegalShield and IDShield

Both benefits provide participants with direct access to dedicated professionals and provide easily accessible services through an online web portal and mobile app. Together, LegalShield and IDShield serve over 40,000 employers in the US and Canada, making them the nation’s largest group benefits provider of legal, identity theft and online privacy protection plans.
We are excited to announce LegalShield and IDShield as our Partner of the Week, where we highlight one of our unique PlanSource Marketplace Partners and the value they bring to the benefits industry. We recently connected with Mary S. Skaggs, Senior Director of Strategis Partnerships at PPLSI , to discuss their unique services, how they solve key industry pain-points and where they see the company going in the future.
What makes your company unique in the benefits space – what key benefits do you provide to employees?
We were founded in 1972 with a vision that everyone should have equal and affordable access to justice and security. We are the nation’s largest group provider of legal and identity theft (IDT) and online privacy protection benefits, and the only company to truly offer both a comprehensive legal and IDT design. All our benefits provide direct access, including 24/7 emergency services and an easy-to-use mobile app and web portal. Our mission is to protect and empower people with the tools and services they need to affordably live a just and secure life. LegalShield, our legal protection benefit, and IDShield, our identity theft (IDT) and online privacy protection benefit, currently provide such services to over 4.5 million people.
What industry problems are we solving with our partnership for HR teams and/or their employees?
In today’s digital world, how you look online matters and too often a person’s digital footprint can have a negative impact on their social life, career and even their insurance rates. IDShield’s online privacy and reputation management services help individuals take control of their online persona while also helping to protect their identity. IDShield also provides unlimited consultation in the event of a data breach or identity theft incident and full-service identity restoration with a dedicated licensed private investigator.
The height of COVID-19 highlighted the need for specific legal services and left a lot of legal issues in its wake including landlord/tenant disputes, estate planning needs and consumer credit issues including bankruptcy, contractor disputes and real estate matters. Hiring a lawyer is expensive and is not a realistic option for most employees. Our benefits help close the gap and provide employees with access to affordable legal, IDT and online privacy services.
By partnering with PlanSource we are able to support HR teams in enhancing their benefit package by helping their employees protect their identity, reputation, legal rights and finances as well as their mental health as legal and IDT issues can be stressful and have a debilitating effect.
What is one thing your company is doing to innovate your product/offering to change the industry?
Both LegalShield and IDShield provide a hassle-free experience by connecting employees directly to professionals through our mobile app. With our LegalShield mobile app for example, participants can either directly connect with their dedicated law firm or schedule a date/time that works best to discuss their specific legal matter.
We are also the only company providing both online privacy and reputation management services. In addition to providing a password manager, anti-malware and a VPN, with IDShield’s reputation management service participants can scan their social media accounts including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and more, for existing content that could be damaging to their online reputation. Participants will be notified of old accounts, high-risk posts and images, and will have the ability to review and the choice to remove flagged content from their personal accounts.
