‘Tis the season of giving, sharing and thanks.

In the spirit of the holiday season, we reached out to HR professionals and asked, ‘What are you thankful for this year?’.

Here’s what they had to say…

Jillian SeijoHR Manager at Develop Intelligence

“This year, I am most thankful for the NYC Paid Family Leave Act. Prior to this act, many expecting women would go out on maternity leave with no PTO time available. With this new act, the expecting mother can focus on bonding with her newborn and will be paid. For example this year, PFL offers 8 weeks paid at 50% of the employee’s average weekly earnings. From 2019-2021, expecting mothers will see the PFL benefits increase to 12 weeks at 67% of average weekly earnings.”

Lynnette HolsingerPresident of HR Florida State Council

“This year, I am thankful for the HR Florida State Council and the HR professionals who graciously volunteer their time to be a part of this organization to advance the HR profession. Through the council, chapter members are able to positively impact the lives of those living in their community and across the state. Most recently, through the council’s resources and efforts, the organization was able to help those affected by Hurricane Michael. I feel very fortunate to call these professionals, who are there for each other in good and bad times, friends.”

Agni SkafidasHR Manager at OLAM Group

“Clean data! That’s what I’m grateful for this year. It’s a pain to work on analyses where there are inconsistencies, obvious mismatches, spelling errors or just no data. The time it requires to get the data cleaned is not effectively spent and often requires a number of rounds of data verification. I’ve been working in compensation and benefits/total rewards since 2007, previously in general HR, and believe that anyone can learn how to use data to enhance their HR function. But only with clean data!”

Nate MastersonHR Manager at Maple Holistics

“As an HR manager, I am extremely grateful for when employees do their part. Whether that means handing in their forms on time or dealing directly with one another, I really appreciate when not every single tiny situation falls on my shoulders.”

Cristian RennellaVP and CoFounder at

“After 9 years of work, with great effort and dedication, we want to give thanks that we were finally able to make our dream come true and today each of the 134 people in our team will only work 4 days a week! Now, we can all have 50% more time with our family with a 3 day weekend. This is one step towards our ultimate goal of achieving a more healthy work environment for families. That is what we are so thankful for this holiday season.”

Ketan KapoorCEO and Co-Founder of Mettl

“I can recall one crucial change this year that skyrocketed our motivation as an HR team. Mettl announced giving a significant incentive to participate in various community events and co-curricular activities as a core objective for every employee, depending on their areas of interest and meaning. There is an entire set of participation points attached to an individual employee’s KRA, realizing the fact that recreation holds as much importance as work and will encourage employees to get more productive with adequate participation.

As a result, our entire HR team now bustles with great enthusiasm and fervor to conduct employee engagement activities as participation has tremendously increased in a short span of 3-4 months. It feels so good that Mettl quickly recognized participation in co-curriculars as a crucial factor in employee engagement and happiness, which has helped us create a better and engaged company culture that Mettl wanted to propagate from the very beginning, which also happens to be one of our core objectives as HR.”

Richard Pummell, HR Lead at Develop Intelligence

“I’m thankful for the smile, look of relief and the visible reduction in stress when I’ve helped a client or employee with an issue they didn’t know how to handle.  So many things can pop up to make someone’s work life stressful, it’s always great when it can be removed!”

Jagdish ChuganiVP of Human Resources at PlanSource

“This year, I am thankful for the opportunity to be a cultural ambassador by modeling the right behaviors, encouraging what needs to be rewarded and restrict what does not need to be rewarded. And, for having a team that I can learn from and encourage their growth.”

Nicole GreenManager of HR and Employee Engagement at Perfect Search Media

“I’ve been a part of the Perfect Search Media team since July and I’m celebrating hitting the ground running! Some highlights on the recruiting front include adding two new full-time team members and revamping our internship program to now be paid instead of unpaid. Other launches this year include incorporating a new communication strategy featuring a constant feedback channel, and a focus on introducing new well-being offerings for our employees.”

Jessica Short, HR Manager at Kerauno

“I am most thankful for working at a company that focuses on the three P’s: At Kerauno we focus on Product, Profit but most importantly People. We look for well-rounded team members who are not only are intelligent, talented and hard-working but also have strong character. Our workforce is small but rapidly growing and we need people to think out of the box and work well together.”
